iGaming studio Hacksaw Gaming SEK 2.6m ($246,000) has been punished by the Swedish Gaming Authority, Spelinspektionen for providing software to operators without licencing.
Revised in July 2023, the Swedish Gambling Act now mandates that any persons who offer, manufacture, install, or change any gaming software generated and used for online gaming must have a licensing for gambling software owned. After first looking at several operator gaming sites, Spelinspektionen found several breaches large enough to call for a further look.
Initially, the inquiry turned up a number of websites maintained by operators without the appropriate Swedish gaming license, so prohibiting their running of games in the area. Investigating further revealed that two brands lacking the necessary Swedish gaming licence were game suppliers for Hacksaw Studios AB.
After learning that Hacksaw Studios provided the two in issue with gaming software, the provider has been officially warned by the Swedish Gaming Authority in addition to an administrative punishment worth SEK 2.6m.
In an effort to improve consumer safety, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) said in October 2023 favour of a resolution to also tighten credit restrictions in the country. Not too long afterward, it was claimed that there were about 100,000 Swedish athletes registered under self-exclusion in the area.
